What is a Force Sensing Resistor?

A Force Sensing Resistor is a device that detects the force applied to it. FSR is a variable resistor that changes resistance as pressure is applied and released. It is made up of multiple thin flexible layers. Force Sensitive Resistors or Force Sensors are other names for Force Sensing Resistors. The resistance decreases when pressure is applied, then recovers to its original value as the pressure is withdrawn. The primary function of an FSR is to measure the force exerted to a specified location and then communicate that information via output electronics. All FSRs use high-resistance, carbon-based inks that can be reformulated to change the functionality, along with other design aspects.
